Founding Software Engineer – Platform & AI Tools

Havencare is building a tech-enabled caregiver agency that pairs seniors with exceptional in-home caregivers and gives families real-time visibility into every moment of care. Our mission is simple but ambitious: make high-quality home care the standard with boots on the ground starting in California and scaling nationwide.

The Role

As the first engineering hire, you will architect, ship, and scale the core platform alongside our founder. You'll move seamlessly between green-field product work and scrappy experiments and you'll see your code improve the daily lives of caregivers, seniors, and their families almost immediately.

What You'll Build

• Family & Caregiver Mobile App: A React Native front-end that surfaces personalized care plans, visit logs, and instant messaging
• AI-Powered Workflows: Automations that flag gaps in care, predict caregiver burnout, and surface proactive guidance to families backed by ML models you help design and deploy
• Data & Compliance Layer: HIPAA-aware data pipelines, audit trails, and role-based access controls that keep sensitive health information safe
• Admin Command Center: Internal dashboards that streamline caregiver onboarding, credential verification, scheduling, billing, and incident response

You will own the full lifecycle including white-boarding to production deploys and lay the engineering culture that future teammates will inherit.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop backend systems and intuitive UIs that bridge technical complexity with user-friendly experiences
• Stand up scalable APIs, event streams, and a modular database schema that supports rapid product iteration
• Prototype and productionize ML models (e.g., anomaly detection on care data, caregiver-recipient matching algorithms)
• Establish CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and on-call practices that balance quality with speed
• Collaborate daily with the founder on product strategy, UX trade-offs, and roadmap prioritization
• Mentor future engineers and evaluate contractors or trial hires

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of full-stack development experience, ideally at an early-stage startup where you owned critical systems
• Proficiency in TypeScript, React, and Python
• Demonstrated experience applying machine learning/AI in production or an advanced degree in CS with an AI/ML focus and strong evidence you can ship quickly
• Comfortable wearing many hats: product thinker, designer, DevOps, data engineer
• Excellent written and verbal communication; you keep stakeholders in the loop and default to empathy

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to healthcare, marketplace, or workforce management platforms
• Familiarity with HIPAA, SOC 2, or other compliance frameworks
• Experience with React-Native, GraphQL, or AWS serverless
• Passion for eldercare, caregiving, or social-impact products
